Concept Art

Concept Art Poster

Concept art evaluation

In my poster it shows my three different characters stood in a rocky forest.
I enjoyed doing this project it taught me loads of new techniques  on photoshop and improved my drawing skill a great deal.

This may be useful in the future when I have to draw or use photoshop again

I used many things to inspire me the main things being in every day life and not on the computer.
My textures where inspired by pictures that we went out and took around Bristol of every day objects.

My characters and environment where inspired by films that I watched like Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter.

In my opinion the most successful part of my poster is the back ground and im really pleased with the out come and how it works well with the environment and the characters. It also gives a very good feel the feel it gives is very grotty and looks like a war is present.

I feel something that wasn't so successful were the textures I used I think they gave the right effect for the rocks but not so much for the characters and trees. Although its my poster and it gives it a very unique feel I would have preferred it if it looked a bit more realistic and less fantasy.

What is concept art

concept art is an illustration used in the early development of a video game, film, animation or comic book.
Many different designs of the idea would be created so they can chose the design they like the best.
Then the one that they do chose can be perfected and eventually used in the final product.

Thumbnail Sketches

Thumbnail sketches are quick sketches used by concept artists to note down ideas there normally very small and done with out making any changes/corrections a lot like a doodle.

Digital Rendering

Digital rendering is turning an image into a digital model using a computer or software.
Digital rendering is used in many thinks now days such as movies, computer games and TV visual effects.

What is a Graphics Tablet?

A graphics tablet is an input device used by artists which allows an artist to draw onto the computer screen in great detail and with out having to use the mouse or keyboard.

Matt Rhodes

One concept artist I have been looking at is Matt Rhodes who is a American artist which has recently been working on a game that needs no introduction Mass Effect

Heres an Example of some of Matt's work and you can find more of his work on his own personal blog:
http://mattrhodesart.blogspot.com/

I like this piece of matt’s work the suit design is incredible it’s a lot more streamline then the aliens suits.
Giving it a very cool finish yet it still looks very mean. In all of matt’s work his pictures are beautifully drawn with lots of details. You can see the different types of plates, metal shine and many of his arts so good I feel it deserved to be made into action figures.

But one of the best thing about this picture that I feel really shows of matt’s talent for concept art is the environment in which the solder is in it really shows off matt’s detail in his art and amount of time he puts into his work. Even in the parts most people wouldn’t notice he hasn’t shown any less enthusiasm towards it then the main subject of the picture being the character.

I also like the aliens armor as I feel it conveys the personality of their home planet through the design. Although matt's work is stunning I would like to see more of matt’s work in different genres, as all his work seems to have a very sci-fi feel to it.

Riot Team's speed art for there hit game leauge of legends.
